Donald Fletcher Lloyd, 96, passed away peacefully in his sleep, October 8th, 2017.
“Mr. Fantastic” as many knew him, was born September 18, 1921 in Portland, OR, to Arthur and Gertrude Lloyd. The middle child of three, he spent his early life learning to work hard and cultivating his love for the church.
Drafted into the Army Corps in 1942, Don served his country for three and a half years. It was during this time he met his beloved wife, Helen. They were married in 1943 and lovingly devoted to one another for nearly 50 years, before Helen’s passing in 1993. After completing his tour of duty Don received an education in civil engineering. Shortly after, he was hand-picked by the Mayor of Idaho Falls for the position of Director of Public Works, where he retired in 1985. Don spent time traveling the country, visiting friends and family near and far. He loved woodworking and created beautiful pieces for nearly anyone who asked. A hardworking man, he was always busy with “chores” yet he’d never miss an opportunity to celebrate “wine time” with friends and neighbors.
A man of deep faith, Don cherished his time in church and volunteered rides to Sunday service to fellow parishioners as often as he could. Showing kindness and generosity to everyone he encountered, “Mr. Fantastic” touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all. May the memory of his positive attitude and glorious laugh inspire our lives always.
Survivors include his children: Diane (Patrick) Bertsch of Boise ID, Scott (Trella) Lloyd of Kent, WA; grandchildren: Kristi (Joseph) Romain of Seattle WA, Cassie (Tom) Perdew, and Tony (Kennedy) Bertsch of Boise and four great- grandchildren. At the age of 93, Don joyfully welcomed daughter, Virginia (Bill) Childs into his family.
Don was preceded in death by his brother, Philip; sister, Phyllis; and beloved wife Helen.
