How blessed we are to have had our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, LaVon Long, in our lives for so many years. LaVon was taken from us after a brief illness on Sunday, September 30, 2018, she was 94. She was born December 29, 1923 in Cleveland, Utah, to Pearl and Forest Gilson. She lived on the farm with her siblings, often recalling her love for her country home. LaVon lived and loved life to the fullest. She was a great example of service, having often sat with family members in the hospital and having often traveled at short notice to be with an extended family member after a loss. LaVon was often striving to serve. An early example of her service was to her country in World War II as a Navy Wave. During her service in San Diego, she met her husband, Howard Long. Together they built a life and enjoyed a family of seven children. LaVon served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a full-time missionary in London, gave regular service in the Oakland, CA, and Boise, ID, Latter-day Saint temples, and through various callings. Until her death, LaVon enjoyed spending time with her family and supporting them in their various activities and responsibilities. She enjoyed quilting, reading, being in her garden, working on genealogy, and learning more about the Savior.
LaVon was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; son, Wally; parents, and her siblings. She is survived by her children: Voin, Sharlene, Sherry, Foresta, Howard, and Rayme, and their spouses; 30 grandchildren, and 94 great-grandchildren, who will all miss her love, her example, and her fierce spirit.
