Our dear Lara Mary Tuthill passed into God’s hands on November 26, 2019. She passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones with a peaceful smile on her face, three years after she was diagnosed with cancer.
Lara was born September 25, 1991 in Boise, ID. Lara was a special person. She was our miracle, the apple of our eye for her parents, brother, Paul and sister, Erin. She was fiercely loved, independent, strong minded, and had “no natural enemies,” according to her brother. She grew up in the Catholic school system at St. Mark’s Elementary, Bishop Kelly High School and Gonzaga University, spending her final semester in South Africa and earning a B.S. in Biology with Honors. Lara’s passion in life was running. She ran cross country and track in high school and college, becoming the team co-captain in each school. Upon graduation Lara worked at a dude ranch in Wyoming and a nursing home in Boise before traveling to Nepal and Thailand. She then served in the AmeriCorps as a tree sawyer with the US Forest Service. She became a graduate student in kinesiology at Boise State University under the mentorship of Dr. S. Conger, a very special professor.
Lara will be remembered for her adventurous spirit and her delight in being alive. She loved to catch snowflakes on her tongue, smell mountain air, and run in the foothills. She loved her family, friends, boyfriend Kyle, and dog Teeka. She loved quiet moments alone, especially outdoors. Despite the effects of cancer treatment she sought out and found joy in life. Lara taught us how to accept the hard days and savor the good. The family would like to thank the St. Alphonsus Cancer Care Center, especially Drs. Hodson, Devitt, Pulver, Pierson, M. Moore, N. Davey, NP Laurel, PA Becca, nurses Jessie and Tracy, and so many others on her treatment team.
We thank Father Ben, Father Vitalis and the St. Mark’s community for their wonderful support. Services will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 7960 W Northview St, Boise, with a vigil on Wed. Dec. 4th at 7 pm and a funeral mass on Friday Dec. 6th at 11 am, followed by a luncheon celebration of her life. All are invited.Lara is survived and loved by her parents, Mary Ann and Dave Tuthill; sister, Erin Wingfield; brother, Paul Tuthill (Emily); nieces, Lidia and Mia; nephew, Kasen; grandmother, Gracum, a wonderful extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, and many devoted friends.
