Nancy Josephine Schaecher (Hanke), 71, returned to our Lord on Feb 1, 2013 after a long illness. Nancy was born in Lindsay, NE on Feb 16, 1941 to Roy and Francis Hanke, the second oldest of six. She graduated from Holy Family High School in Lindsay, NE, after growing up on the family farm. She met Eugene Schaecher at a Veterans Day dance and they were married five years later on September 14, 1963. With Gene in the military, they moved to Orange County, CA, where the oldest of the four children was born. They moved back to Nebraska when Gene had finished his service. They farmed and had three more children where Nancy was the Head Cook for the St. Edwards School system. She graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree as a certified nutritionist. In 1978, the family moved to Homedale, ID where Nancy worked in the school cafeteria and was involved in St. Huberts Catholic Church activities. In 1981 they moved to Challis, ID where she and Gene built their dream house and finished raising their daughters. She was very involved at St. Louise Catholic Church in a variety of ministries. She also cooked at the Village Inn Restaurant, the Elementary School, and supported Gene in their business, Gene’s Repair. They then moved to Victor, ID for a few years where she began her crafting career that took them to many crafting fairs around the state. Once Gene retired, they moved to Caldwell, ID to be closer to their children and families. They built their retirement home and began an active role in the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. They were also involved with the Caldwell Senior Center, where Nancy enjoyed working the front desk, and playing bingo (and winning) when she could not go to Jackpot.
