Obituary of Robert Dick Butson

Robert Richard Butson Jr. "Dick" died in Meridian, Idaho at his home on August 6, 2012 at age 71, and passed into his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. At the time of his death he was surrounded by his loving wife Rhonda, family and friends. Dick was born in Portland, Oregon on May 1st 1941. He spent his formative years in Ontario, Oregon, graduating from Ontario high school. Dick enjoyed his early life in Ontario which included lifetime friendships and participation in sports at a high level. He was particularly adept at playing basketball. Dick was a people magnet. People were drawn to him and he was a natural leader. He had a genuine interest in others that resulted in many friendships that continued his entire life. People enjoyed being with him and wanted to do business with him. Many business associates developed into permanent friendships. He loved the art of making a deal, and he was a superb salesman. Dick's mind was never idle. He kept a legal pad by his chair and often could be found penciling out a new business idea sometimes just for the enjoyment of it, and sometimes in earnest. Many of Dick's career choices involved the fireplace industry. At times he worked for others and often for himself. He had a knack for developing new business and product ideas. His wife Rhonda was always his dynamic partner and always by his side. Early in life Dick developed a love of cars, working on cars, driving cars, and driving fast cars. This interest never left him, and in later years he and his brother Pat were able to fulfill a lifelong dream and attend the Indianapolis 500 race. A friendship with former race car driver and owner Kenny Hamilton and his wife Nancy was very dear to Dick's heart. In 1960 Dick and Bonnie McGary were married. Their marriage produced three children; Brock, Billie Kay, and Brenda. On December 4th 1985 Dick and Rhonda Dodge were married, and recently celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. During the past three years Dick and Rhonda have developed a deep and lasting spiritual relationship with God. Their lives have become a witness to many. They have been assisted in their spiritual journey by family members and friends, Jack and Bev Blevins. They attend Cole Community Church. Dick had a deep love for his family and relished the times spent together. He was a wonderful companion. He was full of life and brought joy to those around him. There were three fury companions that Dick was very fond of. Cocker Spaniels Buster, Brittney, and Addie were a big part of his life and provided much love and comfort to him. Dick was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Mary Butson and sister Camille Wagner.
