Eddie Thomas

Obituary of Eddie Thomas

My Life Story Eddie was born to Edward & Alice Thomas in Selgman, Missouri. He had 5 sisters and 1 brother who preceded him in death. The family moved to Boise in the early 1930's. He attended Cole and Park Elementary, and North Junior High. One of his first jobs was delivering telegrams on his bicycle for Western Union. Dad entered the Army on July 1948 at Fort Lewis, Washington. While in the military he earned “Proficiency in Small Arms, Weapons Repair and Marksmanship”. Dad really enjoyed his time in the service which allowed him to travel the world and become fluent in the Japanese language. After a honorable discharge Dad helped build dams: Anderson Ranch, Lucky Peak, C.J. Strike and McNary Dam on the Columbia River. He spent 2 years working on the Flying B Ranch on the Salmon River as a guide and care taker. After his construction years, dad worked at the Hotel Boise and the Lucky Peak Nursery for the Forest Service. He retired from the Boise School District after 22 years of service. He made a lot of friends with faculty and students at Whittier, Jefferson, Maple Grove, Collister Elementary & South Junior High. Some of Dad`s hobbies were hunting, fishing, hiking in the primitive area and just about anything that had to do with the outdoors. He was also involved in Boy Scouts as a scout master and was especially proud that several of his boys became Eagle Scouts. Other interests were horse racing and coin collecting. He was a dedicated BSU Football Fan. Dads’ most prized possession was his family. He was like a kid at Christmas when he had the opportunity to brag about his family’s accomplishments, his eyes would light up when speaking about is family. Dad was an all-time joker and tease when it came to his family and grandchildren. Some of his favorite phrases were; “Have I got a deal for you” and “Because I like you”. Dads` wishes were granted when he was able to pass quietly and peacefully with his family surrounding him at his home. Heaven received a very special man. Dad leaves behind his wife Ruth of 56 years of marriage. 6 children: Larry (Shelley) Yates, Rainy Pearlman, Chick (Karen) Yates, Dan (Diane) Thomas, Julie (Tim) Kinch and Jana Thomas (Bill Kuzilik) 11 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great, Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. At Dad’s request no funeral service will be held. A small private gathering for family and friends will be held at a future date. Remembrances may be left for the family at www.AccentFuneral.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.
