Obituary of Edward William Loftus
Edward William Loftus passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side on July 5, 2023, in Boise, Idaho. He was 83.
Ed was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Martin and Nora (Corcoran) Loftus, both of whom immigrated from Ireland. Ed was also lucky to grow up with two loving sisters, Eleanor and Ann, and legions of extended family that he remained close with his entire life. He attended Saint Basil’s Catholic School and Duquesne University and served in the US Air Force. The friends he made in his youth, Jack and Bernie, remained close lifelong friends.
He settled in Washington, DC, where he had two daughters. He worked for most of his career at the Securities and Exchange Commission. Ed was an avid traveler, visiting Russia, France, Egypt, China’s Silk Road, the Great Wall, and Ireland. He was also drawn to the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley and historic Williamsburg, and he took full advantage of DC’s many cultural treasures like theater, ballet, symphonies, and classes at the Smithsonian. Once again, the relationships and friendships he developed in DC were significant and lifelong. He cared deeply for his friends, and he considered them part of his family.
Music was one of Ed’s biggest passions. His formidable music collection is a testament to all the music he loved, including doo wop, jazz, blues, opera, and Irish music.
Ed is survived by his daughters: Ann Loftus and Laura Loftus (Toby Robin); grandchildren: Delphine, Jack, Ana, and Remy Robin; and sister Ann (John) Meenan and her family.
