Obituary of Leonard John Riccio, Sr.

Leonard John Riccio, Sr. passed away on September 26, 2023 in Florence, Italy.  Leonard was born November 13, 1940 to Philip and Mary Ann Riccio in Altoona, PA. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1958 and Penn State University in 1962 with a degree in Mathematics.  He received his MBA from West Coast University in Orange County California in 1980.  He met Elizabeth Strooband in 1966 in Downey, CA, they were married for 52 years when she passed away.  They were blessed with three children: Cornelia, Mieke and Leonard Jr.

Leonard retired from North American Boeing in 1995 after 30 years of service, where he supported the Apollo and Shuttle Programs. He went on to work for Computer Science Corporation, retiring in 2005.  In 2006 he and Elizabeth moved to Idaho, and they enjoyed raising sheep and other animals on their small ranch. They were active members of Holy Apostles Catholic Church, where he was a minister of the Eucharistic. After Elizabeth’s death Leonard enjoyed traveling to the Netherlands and Italy and studying the Italian language and culture. Leonard was pursuing Italian dual citizenship.  In addition, he was an accomplished runner and completed over forty marathons.

Leonard is survived by his daughter, Cornelia (Casper) Riccio-Cramer of Amsterdam; Leonard Jr. (Mandy) Riccio of Meridian, ID and grandchildren: Saskia, Renée, Michael, Rebekah and Christian; son-in-law, Todd Small, brother, Richard (Jacquelyn) Riccio of  Altoona, PA; sister, Annette Phipps of Woodward, Ohio; and brothers-in-law: Peter Strooband of Middleton, ID and Henry (Kathleen) Strooband of Palm Bay, FL; and sister-in-law, Teresa (David) Strooband- Gray of Palm Bay, FL.
